Peer Review and Editorial Process

The International Journal of Medical Sciences and Academic Research (IJMSAR) follows a rigorous, fair, and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality, integrity, and scientific validity of all published articles.

All manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of academic merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without discrimination based on the authors’ nationality, gender, institutional affiliation, or personal background.

The journal adheres to the ethical standards and best practices recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Type of Peer Review

IJMSAR operates a Double-Blind Peer Review system.

• Authors do not know the identity of reviewers
• Reviewers do not know the identity of authors

This process ensures unbiased and independent evaluation.

Submission Policy

Manuscripts must be original work and must not be published or under consideration elsewhere. Simultaneous submission to multiple journals is considered unethical and will result in rejection.

Editorial and Review Workflow

1. Initial Editorial Screening

After submission, manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief or handling editor to assess:

• relevance to the journal’s scope
• originality
• compliance with submission guidelines
• ethical standards
• plagiarism screening

Manuscripts with serious ethical concerns, plagiarism, or those outside the journal’s scope may be rejected without external review.

2. Peer Review

Manuscripts passing the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent subject experts for peer review. Peer review may be conducted through OJS or an editorial-office-managed external review process, as appropriate.

Reviewers evaluate:

• scientific quality
• methodology and design
• data accuracy and interpretation
• originality and significance
• clarity of presentation
• ethical compliance

Reviewers provide constructive comments and recommendations to improve the manuscript.

3. Reviewer Selection

Reviewers are selected based on expertise, academic qualifications, and publication history in the relevant field.

Authors may suggest potential reviewers; however, the final selection remains solely at the discretion of the editorial team.

Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest and decline review if impartiality cannot be maintained.

4. Editorial Decision

Based on reviewer reports, the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor makes one of the following decisions:

• Accept
• Minor Revision
• Major Revision
• Reject

The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief after careful consideration of the reviewers' recommendations and the editorial assessment.

5. Revisions

Authors receiving revision requests must submit:

• a revised manuscript
• a detailed point-by-point response to reviewers’ comments

Revised manuscripts may be re-evaluated by the original reviewers.

Acceptance depends on satisfactory revisions and editorial approval.

6. Typical Review Timeline

• Initial editorial screening: 2–5 days
• Double-blind Peer review: 2–3 weeks
• Revision (if required): depends on authors
• Final editorial decision: usually within 4–5 weeks of submission

The journal aims to complete the review process as efficiently as possible while maintaining rigorous peer review standards.

Most accepted manuscripts are published within approximately one month of the original submission date, provided that authors submit revisions promptly and all publication requirements are completed.

Confidentiality

All submitted manuscripts and related communications are treated as confidential. Reviewer reports are maintained as confidential editorial records and are not required to be submitted through OJS.

Editors and reviewers must not share, use, or disclose manuscript content outside the review process.

Conflict of Interest

Editors and reviewers must disclose any financial, professional, or personal conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when necessary.

Author Appeals

Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a written justification to the editorial office.

Appeals are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board. The decision after appeal is final.

Ethical Compliance

The journal follows internationally recognized publication ethics standards, including:

• COPE guidelines
• ICMJE recommendations
• Good editorial practices

Any suspected misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices, will be investigated and may result in rejection, correction, or retraction.
